About Dr. Savino

Dr. Richard M. Savino, M.D., A.B.O.S., F.A.A.O.S. is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in joint replacement, sports medicine, and orthopedic education. He is Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk and Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Long Island School of Medicine.
He earned his B.S. from Boston College and his M.D. from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. He completed his orthopedic residency at Temple University Hospital and a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Johns Hopkins University.
From 2001 to 2022, Dr. Savino was a senior partner at Long Island Bone & Joint LLP before joining NYU Langone, where he now leads initiatives in robotic surgery, safety, and education. He serves on key leadership committees, including the Orthopedic Strategy and Zero Harm Committees.
Dr. Savino has volunteered on international medical missions with Blanca’s House, providing joint replacements in underserved communities. He was honored as “Man of the Year” in 2012 for his humanitarian efforts.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, he is certified in advanced technologies such as ROSA, Mako, and Bluebelt systems. His research on joint replacement and cartilage restoration has been published in top orthopedic journals.
Known for combining innovative techniques with compassionate care, Dr. Savino also mentors future surgeons through his academic roles.
